Privacy policy
Last updated: 6 July 2026
Bayes (bayes.com.au) is an Australian data science and software development consultancy. This policy explains what information this website collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. Our data practices are deliberately simple: we collect what you choose to send us, we use it to reply, and nothing else.
Information we collect
The only personal information this website collects is what you choose to send us.
- Contact form — your name, email address, and message, sent to us so we can reply.
- Direct email — if you write to hello@bayes.com.au, we keep the correspondence as ordinary business records.
- Hosting logs — our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) for security and reliability. We don't use these to identify you.
- Theme preference — your light/dark mode choice is stored locally in your browser and is never sent to us.
Cookies and analytics
This site does not use analytics, advertising trackers, or marketing cookies. There is no third-party tracking of any kind.
If we introduce analytics in the future, we'll choose a privacy-respecting option and update this policy first.
How we use your information
We use the details you send us for one purpose: responding to your inquiry and, if it goes further, discussing your project.
We don't sell personal information, add you to mailing lists, or send marketing. If you write to us once, you hear back from us — nothing else.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or trade personal information. It is shared only with the service providers that make this website work.
- Web3Forms — processes contact form submissions and forwards them to our inbox. Your submission transits their servers, which may be located outside Australia.
- Our email and hosting providers — deliver mail and serve this website.
Client and project data
Data shared with us during a consulting engagement is separate from this website and governed by the engagement contract.
In short: we access project data only for the scope and duration of the work, we can operate within your environment and sign an NDA where required, and everything is handed back or deleted at the end of the engagement.
How long we keep it
We keep inquiry correspondence for as long as needed to respond and maintain ordinary business records. If you'd like your details removed, email us and we'll delete them, unless we're required to keep them for legal or accounting reasons.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold: this site is served over HTTPS, form submissions are encrypted in transit, and access to our inbox is limited to the people who need it.
No system is perfectly secure — but we hold very little, and we protect what we do hold.
Access, correction, and deletion
You can ask at any time what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@bayes.com.au and we'll respond within a reasonable time — usually a few business days.
The rules we follow
This policy is written to be consistent with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Whether or not a business of our size is strictly required to comply, we treat the APPs as the baseline for how personal information should be handled.
Where information is processed overseas by a service provider, we take reasonable steps consistent with the APPs.
Complaints
If you believe we've mishandled your personal information, contact us first at hello@bayes.com.au and we'll work to put it right. You can also lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Changes to this policy
If our practices change, we'll update this page and revise the date at the top. Substantive changes won't apply retroactively to information collected under an earlier version.
